New year, new updates! Today, we’ll be breaking down the latest social media platform features as well as some tips and tricks to get your digital marketing strategy fine-tuned in 2021. Grab a cup of joe and a notepad and let’s get started!
It’s been a long time coming, but hashtags are finally back, people! During the 2020 presidential election, Instagram chose to block searches and posts for recent hashtags. Whether you were looking for #denverfoodie or #election2020, the result was the same. No pics of pizza or presidential news were to be found. Luckily for all of us who love to see great metrics in terms of engagement and reach, these bad boys are officially back!
Another new feature Instagram has rolled out is improved keywords. Looking for a little home office inspo? Just type it in the search bar and you’ll be able to find posts that have those specific words in the copy. This is great news for users as it will allow your content to be shown to more people without having to use a million hashtags!
We’d like to give a warm welcome to the LinkedIn Products page! Showcasing a company’s featured products allows the users of the career-driven platform to learn more about what you offer. This will be especially important for B2B companies to take advantage of. You can count on executives taking a peek at your company page and products if they’re considering working with you. Not sure if you should be jumping on board this latest update? Say Hey Mr. and we’ll lend you a hand!
We’re always preaching the importance of video, but did you know that LinkedIn users are 20x more likely to share videos than any other form of content? If you’re looking to get your name out there, you may want to consider posting more videos. *cough* *cough* We just so happen to have a world-class team for just that!
Hashtags are so 2020. We’re kidding. Kind of. Twitter has recently been advising some brands against the use of hashtags as it can distract from your main goal. For example, if you want users to click on a link, you shouldn’t give them anything else they can click on like your trending hashtags. What it really boils down to here is if you just want eyes on your post, keep on keeping on. If you want people to take action on your post, it’s best to avoid them.
What’s new with Mark Zuckerberg and co? We’re so glad you asked! Data shows that trending news is now the most shared type of content on Facebook. We can’t all be CNN, so we’ve checked into a few other topics that have proven to be popular on the platform. These include: practical hacks, inspirational content, food, cute animals (duh), and travel and adventures. Apparently, we’re all still dreaming of that European vacation after a year in quarantine. You can take any of these topics and tweak them to fit into your brand identity. Another tip for the new year? Create a content calendar so you can make sure you’re fitting in all of these trends throughout the month.
TikTok
The newest kid on the block is ringing in 2021 with new AR technology. Their LiDAR (light detection and ranging) technology responds to the real-world environment. Think Pokemon Go; the app will be able to sense you as well as your surroundings and adjust effects accordingly. How does this all work? The technology is able to measure how long it takes for light to reach an object and reflect back. There are a few other brands looking to take advantage of this technology like Ikea. To make the furniture process easier, users will be able to actually see how a new couch would look in their space. You can bet we’ll be keeping a close eye on AR here at Hey Mr!
SEO
